Pimp My Weekend: April 10th Edition

Posted April 10, 2008

Thursday, April 10th:

Evenings on Fifth @ Fifth Avenue South, Naples

Enjoy a night of strolling while the weather is still cooperating. Walk up and down fancy Fifth Avenue South in downtown Naples for an evening of music, music and more music. Local artists will be performing on the sidewalks on Fifth for your viewing –and hearing- pleasure. The best part of it is that it’s completely free. That’s right. Something inexpensive on Fifth Avenue is definitely something worth checking out. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. and continues until around 10.

Thirsty Thursdays @ Valerie’s Lounge

It's Thursday. You're thirsty. Valerie's wants to help by giving you twice as much thirst quenching beer, wine and liquor for the same totally reasonable price. Some people call it 2 for 1; we call it a sweet present from the booze gods. Four of Southwest Florida's best-loved musicians, known collectively as Modulation, will be on hand to serenade you with soulful music.

Friday, April 11th:

Omnium Gatherum @ FGCU Black Box Theater

The play tells the story of a most unusual dinner party: In a city not unlike New York, in a time not unlike today, several great minds gather to enjoy incendiary conversation, life-or-death discourse, and chutney-encrusted seared salmon. When an unexpected guest arrives just in time for dessert, the table is set for a startling turn of events. Written by Alexandra Gersten-Vassilaros and Theresa Rebeck, this is a play you shouldn’t miss. General Admission $10; FGCU Students, Faculty & Staff $5 with a valid ID. Tickets go on sale/reservations begin Monday, February 4. Call the box office at (239) 590-7268 for information and hours. Tickets can also be purchased at the door, starting one hour prior to performance times

Bobcat Goldthwait @ Captain Brien’s Seafood and Raw Bar

Robert Francis 'Bobcat' Goldthwait, born May 26, 1962, is an American comedian. He is most widely known for his high pitch voice during his comedy acts. Saturday, April 12th:

Soggy Doggy Day @ Sugden Regional Park

So your dog won’t stay out of the pool and is always jumping in the water? Dogs will dart for the door when they hear about Soggy Doggy Day at Sugden Regional Park, where they will be able to swim with other canine pals in Lake Avalon.

This is a first-time pet event for Collier County Parks and Recreation and it is expected to draw hundreds of pooches and owners. The cost is $20 event entry per dog. Soggy Doggy Day will feature fun games for dogs, prizes, an agility (trick) demonstration by pros, obedience training, an agility course for dogs to burn their energy. Refreshments will be available for both dogs and people. Collier County Domestic Animal Services will also be participating and funds raised will benefit the DAS Donation Trust Fund to pay for the emergency medical needs of shelter pets.

Smaller dogs or those with physical limitations are welcome to use lifejackets. Swimming is a very healthy activity for dogs and it keeps them cool… So bring your water lovin’ canine to Soggy Doggy Day and enjoy a day at the beach with the entire family.
