Pimp My Weekend: Mar. 5th Edition

Posted March 5, 2008

Thursday, Mar. 6th

Open Mic & Jam Session @ Lucky’s@951

Hosted by the madly popular Moony Mann, this guy will put just about any act up in front of the mic. Seriously, anything. Got a drumbeat you want to show off? Maybe you just finished your first chiptune single. Talk to Moony Mann, and he’ll find you a slot on Thursday night, going from 7pm to 10pm.

If live music isn’t your thing for tonight, go to enjoy the drink specials then, instead. From the happy hour (11am to 7pm), get margaritas for $5.95, $2 off bottles and drafts, and $1 off everything else.

Young Professional Mall Crawl @ Gulf Coast Town Center

This “Mall Crawl” is better suited as a “Pub Crawl” in the mall, got it? The Gulf Coast Town Center is hosting this act, which starts at the popular hotspot Bar Louie at 5:30pm, moves on to The Cigar Bar, and then the event reaches an end at Blu Sushi.

The whole set is priced at $20, which does not cover any super, premium drinks at each bar; gratuity is not included either. Some locations will be serving appetizers, complimentary exclusive to this party.

For ticket information you can call Connie at 239-333-1726.

Friday, Mar. 7th

Modern Mexican Masters @ Naples Museum of Art

From 10am to 4pm, go and browse this permanent collection of 20th-century Mexican art, including new additions of the Bryna collection. Michael and Tonya Aranda donated new additions to the collection.

You’ll be seeing the largest collection of Mexican art in the Southeast. Some pieces were given international fame as centerpieces in traveling collections, too. Featured work includes pieces by David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, and many more. This is one art show that’ll refresh your pallet, don’t skip this one.

The cost ranges from $6 to $15.

Sci-Fi Fan Club Meeting @ Calistoga Bakery Café

Welcome to the official Sci-Fi club of Naples, created in 1990. This free meeting is open to all visitors, geek or not.

Each meeting has exclusive airings of never-before-seen episodes of shows, like Doctor Who, Torchwood, and others. You can even game with other members of the club. Watch Sci-Fi on the giant Plasma TV in Hi-Def quality!

Each meeting goes from 4pm to 9pm, and is hosted at the Calistoga Bakery Café at Airport and Vanderbilt.

Saturday, Mar. 8th

Exhibit: “Amazing Amazon” @ Naples Botanical Garden

Interested in endangered lands, plants, and animals? Then this is a delight for you!

The Naples Botanical Garden is continuing its “Amazing Amazon” exhibit into this weekend, where you’ll see the origin of the chocolate bar and the unique vegetarian piranhas. Exhibit also includes a huge anaconda and poison dart frogs!

Come see all of these animals in their environment of the rainforest undergrowth! The show is from 10am to 4pm, and tickets cost $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under 6. Call 643-7275 or email info@naplesgarden.org for more information.

Dave Collaton @ The Cottage

Yes, he's that good that we're talking about him, again.

Seeing this guy play and jam out his original solos and compositions is something to be seen, and with the visual of what appears to just be a humble, beach guy really strikes you as something unique here out at Fort Myers Beach. Collaton has been known to play here every Thursday and Saturday night, and on every night that we've seen him, we've never been disappointed; he plays from about 9PM to 1AM. Enjoy the jubilant atmosphere of the bar at the Cottage while you're there, too. This place has always been a hotspot out on the beach, and probably will be for a long-time coming.

Worth the Drive:

LANGERADO IS HERE!!!

This is the must-not-miss musical festival of the year, and it’s all happening just a short drive out of Naples! We’re talking about four days of non-stop music, 85 artists, and huge headliners like Beastie Boys, REM, Ben Folds, and so much more! 85 artists!?!
