What is the hot drink? “The martini, especially the Ruby’s and Jules and Express Yourself.”
How did you become a bartender? “I have been a bartender for the past 12 years. I started out as a server and began tending bar. I am also a freelance make-up artist.”
Is there a drink a man shouldn’t order? “No. I don’t discriminate. They should order more freely for a better selection.”
Is there a drink that is unusual for a woman to order? “No, not in this day and age.”
Are you asked advice? “Mostly on relationships.”
What was your biggest tip? “I received a $1,000 tip on a $6 tab. The gentlemen was impressed that I poured him another beer before his glass was empty. He charged it on a black American Express card.”
Did you ever serve a celebrated guest? “The Red Sox baseball players come in during spring training. I met my husband here, and he is an ex-Red Sox player.”
Do people order differently during happy hour? “Yes. We have happy hour from 4-7 every day with house brands half off. So, most people order the house brands.”
What was the last drink you had to look up? “It was a very old drink called Golden Cadillac.”
What is your favorite bar? “I meet my friends at South Street.”
Do you have a back of the bar law? “To be quick. A customer should never have an empty glass.”
Do you have a pet peeve? “Customers snapping their fingers before they even sit down. They should let you show them what you can do.”
What is the last drink you had out? “Coconut rum on the rocks with a splash of soda.”
When was the last time you broke a glass? “Sometime this year.”
What drink is on the rise? “It is still the martini.”
What drink is on the way out? “We don’t do many Manhattans or sours.”
Do people order by brand? “Definitely — Absolut, Ketel One, Belvedere and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum.”
What was your most embarrassing moment at work? “I had a drink spilled all over me by another bartender and, luckily, I had another shirt to change into. I was soaked.”
Is there a new ingredient you are using? “Pomegranate is coming in a lot. We’re making a cosmo with Pama liqueur.”
Did you ever invent a drink? “Yes, I am called the baker. The drink I am going to make for you, the Ruby’s and Jules, is my invention.”
