Closings and openings

Gourmet Catering & Take-Out has closed for vacation and will re-open Sept. 20 at 2500 U.S. 41 N., Naples. The catering office is still open. Information; 263-5816

The Melting Pot of Naples in the Hibiscus Center has closed. The restaurant was open for four years.

Ric’s Bakery Cafe & Grill, 694 U.S. 41 N., Naples, will be closed through Sunday for renovations. When the restaurant re-opens it will have a dinner menu. Information: 434-5999

Kim Bokamper, a former Miami Dolphin, is opening a sports bar in the former site of the Keg and before that the Sanibel Steakhouse at 8990 Fontana Del Sol Way at Vanderbilt Road and Airport-Pulling Road, Naples.

Summer cooking

Florida Olive Oil Company and Chef Annie Prizzi are presenting a summer cooking lesson featuring swordfish, a Tuscan salad and a lemon olive oil cake from 4 to 6 p.m. today at 535 Fifth Ave. S., Naples. $20. Reservations: 403-0735

National Lasagna Day

Celebrate National Lasagna Day at Brio Tuscan Grille and Bravo on Thursday. Both restaurants are offering lasagna Bolognese al forno for half off the regular price. The dish is an oven-baked pasta, layered with meat sauce and Alfredo, ricotta and mozzarella cheeses from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Waterside Shops, 5505 U.S. 41 N., Naples and the Mercato, 9110 Strada Place, Naples. Samples

Be one of the first 50 customers at the Naples Pasta Company from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Third Street Farmer’s Market, 1220 Third St. S. (in the parking lot behind Tommy Bahama) and receive a dried pasta sample. A drawing for free bags of ravioli will also be held and a recipe for the company’s tomato vodka sauce will be offered.

Cooking demonstrations

Learn some new tricks during the cooking demonstrations by Bistro 41 at the GreenMarket from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers.

Mozzarella-making class

Learn how to make fresh mozzarella from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Naples Tomato, 14700 U.S. 41 N., Naples. The cost of $35 includes cheese samples, a few glasses of wine or another beverage, light snacks, instructions and one pound of mozzarella curd to take home to make your own cheese. Reservations are required at 598-9800

Maine lobster seafood boil

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 8985 U.S. 41 N., Naples, is introducing a three-course Maine lobster and seafood boil for two for $99 or $49.50 for one through Aug. 15. Barbecue

The Real Macaw is offering a $10 barbecue dinner starting at 5 p.m. on Sundays. The regular menu is also available and diners will be entertained by Smokin’ Joe and the Snapper Magnets. Visit at 3275 Bayshore Road, Naples. Reservations: 732-1188

Guess what’s for dinner?

Bamboo Cafe French Home Cooking is hosting “Guess What You are Having for Dinner Tonight?” at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at 755 12th Ave. S., Naples. Guests try to identify the three appetizers, two entrees and three desserts and will be awarded prizes for correct answers. Cooking lessons

La Lafayette French Gourmet will teach diners how to make chicken in a morel sauce at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at 375 13th St. S., Naples. The cost of $29.50 includes lunch and a soft drink. The following week the class is on creme brulee. Information and reservations: 403-7861

Prix fixe menus

Brio Tuscan Grille at the Waterside Shops, 5505 U.S. 41 N., Naples, is presenting a three-course prix fixe menu for $16.95 starting at 3 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays through the early fall. Entree choices include grilled chicken fettuccine alla vodka, tangy citrus chicken and beef medallions marsala. Customers can also enjoy the $2.95 bar menu in the bar area while having drinks from 3 to 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to closing Mondays through Fridays. Reservations: 593-5319

Parkshore Grille, 814 Neapolitan Way, Naples, is offering a four-course prix fixe dinner for $15 all summer. Reservations: 649-8686

Steak dinner

Shula’s is offering a rib eye topped with crispy onions and served over pan-roasted mushrooms with a choice of a Caesar or wedge salad for $89 for two or $44.50 for one through Oct. 15. Enjoy this dinner at the Hilton Naples & Towers, 5111 U.S. 41 N., Naples. Reservations: 430-4900

Small bites and more

Spend less to eat out with an order from Handsome Harry’s small bites menu, featuring plates that average $8. Get short-rib sliders, tempura lobster, lobster salad twin rolls and wicked good shrimp all day long at the bar or in the restaurant. Three-course summer specials are offered every evening before 7 p.m. for $29.95. Visit from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and get beer, liquor and house wines for half price. Private party
