Wine on Wednesday

The Weatherburn Gallery is letting offering a chance for visitors to enjoy both art and wine from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at 452 Bayfront Place, Naples. David Dunlop, a landscape painter, art historian and lecturer will be in the gallery. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 263-8008

Bottle signing

Dan Cohn, vice-president of winemaking from B.R. Cohn Winery, in the Sonoma Valley of California, will be signing his bottles from 4 to 5 p.m. at Whole Foods Market. There also will be a wine tasting and olive oil and vinegar tasting from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the market, 9101 Strada Place, Naples. Free. Information: 552-5100

Pancake breakfast

An all-you-can-eat buffet pancake breakfast will be from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Goodland Community Center, 417 E. Mango Ave., Goodland. $5, adults; $3, children. While you are there, browse the Goodland community garage sale.

Wine dinner

Bellini on Fifth will have a five-course Italian wine dinner with wines that received the Tre Bicchiere award at 7 p.m. Sunday at 445 Fifth Ave. S., Naples. Rafael Dezendegui, an Italian wine specialist, will be a guest speaker. $95. Reservations: 261-1117

Supporting our troops

Eat at Outback Steakhouse during March and order from the “Red, White and Bloomin” menu and a portion of the proceeds will go to Operation Homefront to support U.S. troops. The local restaurants are at 4910 U.S. 41 N., Naples, 434-7100 and 27230 Bay Landing Drive, Bonita Springs, 948-3575. The parent company says it will donate up to $1 million from the chain.

Cooking classes and demonstrations

* Lynn Novo of Comfort Sisters-Good Food, will make a dinner from the pantry at 6 p.m. Monday ($10), and Denise Petersen will teach how to roast a chicken at 6 p.m. March 10 ($10) at Whole Foods Market, 9101 Strada Place, Naples. Registration is required at www.acteva.com/Go/LifestyleCenter.

* Chef Vincenzo Beulia of Campiello’s will be cooking Florida fish from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Haskell’s, 2021 Pine Ridge Road, Naples. $85. Includes dinner with wine pairing. Reservations: 254-1120

* Lilly Zanetti of Zanetti Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oils will do a cooking demonstration and lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m. March 11 at Bamboo Cafe French Home Cooking, 755 12th Ave. S., Naples. $45. Reservations: 643-6177

* The Good Life of Naples will have the following lessons and demonstrations at 2355 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Naples: Annie DePiero, cooking with a Gaelic twist, 6 to 8 p.m. March 12 for $50. ; Bobbie Thompson, cobblers, noon to 12:30 p.m. March 13, free; Shelly Connors, springtime harvest, 6 to 8 p.m. March 16; $50. New pastry chef

Emily Duncan is now the pastry chef at Tony’s off Third. Duncan is a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Culinary Arts and was the assistant pastry chef at the Breakers in Palm Beach and two Ritz-Carlton hotels. Visit at 1300 Third St., Naples and try her chocolate banana caramel with an almond coconut crunch. Sit in the courtyard and enjoy the live entertainment from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays or take one home to enjoy at your leisure. Information: 262-7999

A retro dessert

This is the year for us to rediscover pudding. Remember how comforting it was when your mother made chocolate, butterscotch or vanilla pudding? Well, now restaurants are helping remember the smooth, classic by putting it on their menus.

Organic foods

The produce contaminated with the most pesticides are peaches, apples and bell peppers, according to food.com. Onions, asparagus and avocados are the least polluted, it says. Go to foodnews.com to find the entire list.

Chocolate is good for you

Chocolate is not only delicious, but can also help protect against cancer and heart disease and reduces skin damage from sun exposure. Antioxidant-rich, dark chocolate can increase your skin’s natural UV protection, according to a study in the “Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.” Eat a small amount at a time to extend the benefits over the course of a day. Get the tasting squares instead of the giant bars.

Going south
