Koral’s sushi chef Sumio “Sam” Miyashita, of Japan, came to the U.S. 20 years ago, and has been the sushi chef at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort since Koral’s Cocktail and Sushi Bar opened in September 2009. “In Japan, my family has a restaurant. In 1925 a group of Czech immigrants settled the town of Masaryktown in central Florida. They established orange groves, which were destroyed in the hard frost of 1926. The enterprising immigrants then turned to the growing of chickens, and that proved to be a successful venture.
