CATHY COTTRILL
Correspondent - The Banner
I came to The Banner in 1981 straight out of journalism school and promptly fell in love with the plucky little paper that came out handwritten and undaunted after Hurricane Donna destroyed its production facilities in September 1960.
Kudos to Bob and Janet Parrett for setting a standard we strive to uphold to this day. I'm an avid reader who enjoys local history, a close-knit staff, and the joy of a story well-told. A longtime vegetarian, I'm married to Butch, a charter boat captain who guides from a small marina on Captiva Island. The Cottrill family includes three Maine coon cats, two domestic shorthairs, a pair of rescued golden retrievers and a gray mare named Stella who competes with me on the national level in dressage.
