LIAM DILLON

Liam Dillon, 26, is a staff writer who covers Ave Maria, Florida Gulf Coast University and higher education for the Naples Daily News.

He joined the paper in September 2006 after spending his entire life in the Northeast. He grew up in Philadelphia and graduated in May 2005 from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., majoring in political science and minoring in philosophy. He has, his mother likes to say, been a writer since he was 9 years old.

Before Liam came to the Daily News, he spent 18 months covering umpteen high school sports as a freelancer for the Washington Post and attended a six-week fellowship for recent college graduates at The Poynter Institute, the St. Petersburg-based school for journalists.

Liam began at the Daily News by covering the City of Marco Island, added Ave Maria to his responsibilities in July 2007 and became the general higher education reporter in January 2009.

Some of his interests include playing football and softball, reading, Rockband and Christmas sweaters. One of his great pleasures in the past year was watching the Philadelphia Phillies win the first championship for any Philadelphia professional sports franchise in his lifetime. He may or may not have played the "Rocky" theme song 30 times in a row while dancing around his apartment.
