I'm originally from Commerce, Georgia, a small town just north of Athens. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a literature degree in 2005 and earned a master's degree at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 2008.
In June 2008, I joined the Naples Daily News as a crime and courts reporter in the Bonita Springs office.
Most of my coverage falls into four areas: 1) Breaking news, such as fires, shootings or floods; 2) Crime news drawn from local arrest or incident reports; 3) Court cases related to Lee County; and 4) Enterprise pieces, or feature stories looking at a specific issue, person or series of events.
Past reporting experience includes staff reporting at a weekly paper in Jackson County, Georgia; freelance work for The New York Post; and student work at a South Bronx weekly and the Albany Times Union.
If you have any questions, comments or tips for me, I can be reached at sbeardsley@naplesnews.com or at my desk phone, 239-213-6097. Please don't hesitate to contact me, good or bad. I ask that you leave your full name, as you know mine.
